Hammam, also known worldwide as a Turkish bath, is a religious and spiritual cleansing bath. It is said that centuries ago, it originated in Turkey and the Middle East. It is a type of steam bath and a trip to Turkey is not complete if you have not visited one. Hammam is the complete cleansing ritual and spiritual refreshment; and its uniqueness is complete mental and physical relaxation.
The baths were at the same time meeting places where people gathered to discuss various topics such as marriage, business or simply relaxation where ladies or gentlemen played an instrument to brighten up the atmosphere.
The Turkish bath begins with relaxation in a room that is heated by a continuous flow of hot, dry air, allowing the bather to perspire freely. Bathers can then move to an even warmer room before washing in cold water. After performing a full body scrub and receiving a massage, bathers finally retire to the cooling room for a period of relaxation.
